How Scientists Can Predict the Properties of Energy Crops for Biomass Feedstock

Tuesday, 11th June 2019

Analytical Biochemist and BEACON scientist, Dr Gordon Allison, discusses his work on profiling energy crops using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and vibrational spectroscopy, including infrared and Raman techniques, in an editorial article published in the May edition of SelectScience magazine.

There is an increasing demand for biomass feedstocks from energy producers. The laboratory will play a crucial role in breeding programmes to optimise yield, chemical composition, and tolerance to stresses that are likely to exist where they will be grown are vital.
